Old Dog

Your time has almost come,
Little one I remember when it all had begun,
a handful of fluff,
to a big house you came,
lost and alone, whimpering for mum.

Today, almost 15 years on,
Legs buckled and tender,
Eye cloudy and dim,
Pain I cause when I lift you,
But your love is still on.

Your appetite not lost,
yet self control is all gone,
puddles and poops a plenty.
You sleep a lot more,
and walk a lot less.

Yet, Chickie, I love your faithfulness
You lack of 'why not me?'
You humbly endure the younger dog,
Who controls and contrives,
Never ever do you moan.

Ah Chickie, I will miss you,
Such memories I hold,
What a blessing you've been,
What a fond companion,
What enduring patience, what love!

Knowledge and Understanding

Oh how I love order
A tidy home lifts my spirit
My mind does not enjoy clutter
Free I can dream.

Rubbish blocks the path
Hinders the creative
Stops the golden flow
On the path I must go.

I have too many dreams yet to dream
Too many new projects to create
Too many paintings to paint
Too many problems to solve.

My mind is free
To climb that tree
Of wonder and knowledge
To explore that ledge.

Of understanding I cannot enough
Drink deeply of wisdom
Fly high with possibility
Dive deep with understanding.

The well is so deep
Unfathomed by most
Yet here I must go
A treasure I must keep.

The Park

Today I run around the park,
Past ponds, ducks, lizards and the like,
and finally come to the forest,
and stop and find a friend.

If I run through this,
too much I will miss.
Here, in still quiet,
Is life and presence.

Peace calls to me,
Ancient tree whisper knowledge,
Climbing vines share wisdom,
Old lizards beckon to listen.

Beauty refreshes,
Stillness shares rest.
My day can wait,
My heart must stay, in a land that fills me.

The Quest

I am on a quest
For something I see at the edges,
It is barely there,
But I know it is there,
In the shadows and at dusk.

It calls me, hungers me,
Has me climbing through webs of intrigue,
Through dim lit corridors,
Intently listening for the faintest sound.

I know it is there,
Because I have a part of it in me.
I must find it, touch it, live it,
Embrace all of it, for it is me.

It's presence excites me,
Tantalises my imagination,
Presses my heart.
I must have it, possess it,
For yet I lack.

It draws me on adventure,
To strang and different lands.
I will go where it leads,
Over sand and snow,
Through storm and tempest,
O'r billowing seas, I must go.

Oh to possess and understand,
This treasure is more than gold.
This is treasure is who I was born to be,
This treasure is greater, far greater,
Why this treasure is really me.

Eternity

One dreadful night,
I woke in fright,
I found myself in such a plight.

Before me stood,
Thousands upon thousands,
Lined before a throne.

I asked the bloke before me,
What are we doing here?
He said, "I dunno mate,
I thought you'd tell me."

It seemed a racous,
Was raised up ahead,
Why it was a noise,
That would wake the dead.

Bright lights,
A footy night?
The noise sound right,
But, why the fright?

At last I came up close,
And saw, no, felt the host,
Why a loving bloke,
One you'd toast.

I did not understand,
Why still the fright?
And then I stood before Him,
Eyes fixed on mine.

What did you do with My Son?
Pardon? Who is He?
Jesus Christ, now, you do know Him!
Oh God says I, now I'm gonna die.

He was real, so kind, soo real,
Yet I never knew Him,
Unless, to swear Him,
And now I came, to dare Him.

I had cussed His name,
I had laughed at His face,
But now, I wished to change my place.
This was no pansy,
Muggins me, I was the tansy.

It was plain to see,
The door down there for me,
That led below, and not above,
This was where I'd go.

This was no horror movie,
This was no bad dream,
This was eternity,
There was no plea.

Forever and ever and ever,
In a fiery hell I'd spend my lot,
Away from that face,
So full, of amazing grace.

Sisters

We share a common past,
Similar memories are ours,
We have a bond friends don't share,
It's in our blood, so there!

We have brothers too,
But then, they are different to we.
Strange beasts with different moods,
Temperaments, toys and tunes.

Now at an age when memories less troubled,
Joy more readily shows, gratitude glows.
Room we have for each other,
Shared meals and a game or three.

How grateful am I to know you,
How grateful to spend time,
How grateful am I that you live,
And on journeys we can go.

Oh to have been more patient,
Less selfish, more tolerant,
At younger years more fun we'd had,
But at least we now have it,
Like good wine and cheese.

Fathers Day

Today is Father's Day and I am compelled to post,
For too many fathers today we roast.
We blame them for all our faults, pains and grief,
When for crying our loud,
Most did their best tall orders to meet.

None are born with the perfect gift,
Some are better than most,
Yet even them we fail to toast.
My dad struggled to talk,
He even struggled with my walk.

Yet a home he gave me,
Food and clothing I never went without.
Cranky he was, he had six rowdy kids,
He worked in stations above him,
Just to pay his bids,
In life to keep house and home and family from the skids.

Our fathers had fathers, had fathers, had fathers,
And so the story goes.
Some gave life and limb for our safety,
Some worked away from home,
Some died so we could be fathers,
Mothers, sisters and brothers.

Some die of broken hearts,
Because we tear each other apart.
Some stay lonely today,
Some take their lives today,
For fathers need to be fathers,
And today of all days, let's make a start?

Yes some a wicked, cruel and unkind,
Yet there are even mothers who do wrong,
They sell their kids and allow wolves in.
For those who suffer you have my heart,
But let's start again and find a better part.
